It shows your position in the assignment ranking based on the scoring criteria (proximity, siblings at the school, socioeconomic status, etc.). It is provisional because it can change during the appeals period, which typically lasts 7-10 days. The official list is published at preinscripcio.gencat.cat.
You have two options: (1) file an appeal at your first-choice school if you spot a scoring error, within the appeals window; (2) once the final results are published, apply through the available seats (vacants) process coordinated by the Consorci d'Educació de Barcelona (edubcn.cat) for Barcelona city. Meanwhile, keep your enrolment active at whatever school you were assigned to, even if it wasn't your first choice.
Check that the points awarded match your application. If you spot an error (proximity miscalculated, siblings not counted, income outside the threshold), gather the supporting documents before the appeals period opens. The portal preinscripcio.gencat.cat lets you review your detailed scoring with your user code.
At the school you listed as your first choice, submitting the official form with supporting documentation. The typical window is 7-10 days from the provisional results. The school logs it and forwards it to the Admission Guarantees Commission.
Only if you identify a specific error in the points awarded. Appealing "just to try" does not change the outcome and slows the process. Typical cases that do warrant an appeal: proximity miscalculated, siblings not counted, income outside the threshold, or documentation not received.
Appeals are resolved before the final results are published, generally by late May or early June. The response comes via the school or your private area on preinscripcio.gencat.cat.
You must complete enrolment at the school within the deadline they provide, normally during the second half of June. You will need the family book, ID/NIE, vaccination certificate and photos. If you miss the deadline, you lose the place and it goes to the waiting list.

Contact the school directly with free places within the stated deadlines (often a 2-3 day window). You will need the same documentation as for regular enrolment. Applications are not centralised — each school manages its own vacancies.
It depends heavily on the area and school stage. In high-demand zones (Eixample, Gràcia, Sarrià) seats fill quickly. In outer areas or lower-pressure stages (Batxillerat, EOI) there is more availability. The zone map at edubcn.cat gives a sense of demand pressure by area.
